Ipek Paksoy

started her doctoral studies in the ETH Zurich - EPFL Joint Doctoral Programme in the Learning Sciences (JDPLS) in September 2023. Her study focuses on the use of augmented reality in physics education to understand haptic and embodiment mechanisms in physics learning. The project is a collaboration between Prof. Martina Rau and LMU Munich, Faculty of Physics.
Ipek studied Science Education at Bogazici University in Turkey where she also obtained her Master’s degree in Educational Technology. Before joining the learning sciences team at ETH, she was involved in various research projects and worked as product manager in an educational software company that provides immersive learning experiences with interactive virtual laboratories. She participated in the establishment of the university's virtual reality laboratory, BUVIAR, as a laboratory research assistant, and also worked on an international EARLI EFG-funded research project on self-regulated learning in VR environments. Ipek was also a researcher in the Science e-Communication project which organizes meetings between scientists and students and investigates their effects on students' motivation, and attitudes towards STEM fields. She has been volunteering in educational organizations as a science teacher for several years and is still a volunteer coordinator in an educational foundation.
