Earli SIG 6/7 Conference

Prof. Martina Rau and doctoral student Ipek Paksoy attended the Earli SIG 6/7 conference in Tübingen.

While Martina was a keynote speaker and talked about 'external page How to Use Visual Representations Effectively – With and Without the Help of Educational Technologies', Ipek presented the current work of her PhD project 'Augmenting embodied learning experiences with visual representations in mixed reality'. 

CTAT Intelligent Tutoring Systems Summer School

A few impressions from the 2nd annual CTAT Summer School organized by Thomas Schmalfeldt (PH Zurich), Vincent Aleven (Carnegie Mellon University) and Martina Rau (ETH Zurich) at Schloss Au near Zurich.

Yukun Dai, Ipek Paksoy, and our newest lab member Martina Vincoli developed two different prototypes of a computer-based intelligent tutor. Prof. Dr. Martina Rau mentored a student group and presented her past research on intelligent tutoring systems. We all had a wonderful time and would like to thank all participants for making this a memorable week. Particular thanks to Vincent Aleven and his group for traveling to Zurich from the United States and to Thomas Schmalfeldt for the immense effort in organizing the week.

18th International Conference of the Learning Sciences

Ipek and Charlotte presented their work at the external page ISLS Annual Meeting 2024 in Buffalo, NY. Check out Ipek's paper external page here and Charlotte's paper external page here

Ipek also presented her proposed PhD study as a poster and is grateful for the feedback from many researchers with significant contributions to the learning sciences including Shaaron Ainsworth, Nikol Rummel, Joseph Polman and many more.

 

Congratulations to Charlotte!

Charlotte will be one of eight early-career fellows at the Collegium Helveticum starting September, 2024. She will divide her time between the Professorship for Learning and Instruction and the Semper observatory.

 

First International Conference of Embodied Education

Charlotte presented her external page review of metaphor-related research in chemistry education at the external page First International Conference of Embodied Education in Copenhagen.

Teacher working retreat

Every two years, ETH Zurich invites trainee teachers, specialised didacticians and other organisers of teaching diploma and didactics certificate for a working retreat at hotel Seeblick in Emmetten.

Dr. Charlotte Müller, who defended her thesis succesfully in Sep 2023 at ETH Zurich, joined Martina's professorship as a postdoc. 

Ipek Paksoy joined Martina's professorship as a doctoral student of the ETH Zurich - EPFL Joint Doctoral Programme in the Learning Sciences (JDPLS).
